Called the APC 2007 in short, which stands for the Asian Poker Classic, it was the first poker torunament ever held in the subcontinent of
India. And according to the organizers, it is not going to be the last. Sponsored by Maharajah Club that guaranteed that the prize pool would not be less than a million dollars and also guaranteed that the overlay would hit the quarter of a million dollars mark.
Because of its location, in exotic India and especially on the sands of Goa, the Asian Poker Classic was a highly sought after affair among the poker playing crowd. More than a hundred and forty pros flew in from all the world to participate. They came in from places such as Vietnam, Burma, Poland, Russia, Denmark, USA, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Holland and naturally some from India.
The centrality of this poker tournament was further classified by the coming of poker celebrities such as the famboyant Arshad Hussain, the modest Mel Judah, the arrogant Ross Boatmen, the young star Surinder Sunar, the man with a tan Willie Tann, the soft-spoker Jani Sointula, the song-writer Lee Nelson and many others such as Mark Goodwin and Roy Brindley.
The Asian Poker Classic was held at one of the most prestigious holdiay resorts in Goa and in India in general, the Intercontinental Grand Resort, which is one of the finest and most luxirious five star holdiay resorts in India.
