Caribbean stud uses the same hand ranking as in poker. The players play against the casino dealer and not against the other players. The Caribbean stud game begins with each player placing an ante equal to the table minimum. At this point, each player can put an extra side bet for the jackpot.
Each player is dealt five face down cards and dealer deals himself four face down cards and one face up card. After the players look at their cards, they have to decide whether to fold or call. If the choose to fold, they lose their ante. If they choose to call, they are required to place an additional bet, usually double the amount of the ante.
At this point of the Caribbean stud game, the dealer reveals his hand. The dealer has to be qualified by having at least ace king. If he does not qualify, each of the players is being paid an equal amount of the ante. If the players hand is better than the dealers hand, he will be paid equal amount of money to his ante and his additional bet, according to the value of his hand.
If a players hand contains pair or less, he will be paid even. If he has two pairs, he will be paid 2:1. For three of a kind the payout stands for 3:1 and 4:1 for straight. A player who has a flush will be paid 5:1 and 7:1 if he has a full house. A player who has a four of a kind hand will be paid 20:1 and if he has a straight flush, he will be paid 50:1. The highest hand in Caribbean stud is royal flush, which pays 100:1.
