Alternative 7-Card Stud Versions

Sevens Take All

Sevens Take All follows all 7card stud rules, but a pair of 7s beats all other hands. A player holding a pair of 7s can only be beaten by another player if he has the other pair of 7s and a higher third card in his hand.

Such structure makes the game quite different. If a player has a 7 upon his up-cards, he can bluff on high stakes as far as no one knows if he has a second one among his hole cards.

Kings and Little Ones

Kings and Little Ones is another 7card stud version, where kings are wild and the lowest down-card in each player's hand is wild too. According to alternative game rules kings are considered wild only when dealt face-down.

Follow the Lady

Follow the Lady also known as Follow the Queen is another 7card stud version that uses wild cards, but this time wild cards are the one dealt after a queen and all its matches. This rule applies only to face-up card, so the first face-up card dealt after a face-up queen becomes wild.

If a queen is dealt again, the card dealt after it becomes a new wild card and the old wild card is not valid anymore. Alternative rules demand to re-deal the game if a queen was not dealt face-up until the fourth street.

Queens themselves may or may not be wild according to the specific rules of the game. Sometimes, the rules may also demand from the player who gets a wild card face-up to place a small sum of money into the pot.

A variation of Follow the Lady game is Follow the Cowboy. This game has exactly the same rules, but a King is used to determine wild cards instead of a Queen.
